Learn to Curl Bursary
The Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division received a substantial donation from Curl Saskatoon in memory Saskatoon Curler Vern Affeldt, who passed away suddenly during the preparations for the 2012 Brier held in Saskatoon. Vern was a strong promoter of curling in our province, having served on many boards and also as committee chair for the 2012 Brier. He officiated at curling play downs all over the province. Vern believed in all youth having the opportunity to learn the great sport of curling.
The intent of the donation is to pay for a season’s registration for four students in grades 6, 7 or 8 in our school division to take part in the “Learn to Curl” program through Curl Saskatoon on a yearly basis. The students should be selected on a ‘need’ basis.
To qualify, a student needs to submit an application form. If chosen, the student would register in the “Learn to Curl” Program at the curling club of their choice and the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools Foundation Inc. would take care of the cost. All clubs have the equipment required for each participant but they should take their own clean running shoes. The curling season runs from mid-October to April.
